SOLTA DE L'AIGUA, MANUEL
Description
Traditional water release, Manuel.
Every year, on February 2nd, Candlemas Day, the symbolic release of water is celebrated through the common irrigation ditch, which supplies water to the municipalities of Énova, Manuel, La Pobla Llarga, Rafelguaraf, Sant Joanet, Senyera and Castelló.
This is a centuries-old celebration (documented at the beginning of the 17th century), part of the intangible and also hydraulic heritage. In these municipalities along the Albaida River the irrigation ditch is mostly made with the technique known as “riego a manta”.
Representatives from the municipalities, irrigation communities and civil society participate, and it is celebrated as a festive day, bringing together neighbors in a celebration accompanied by the traditional “porrat”.
Recorded on February 2, 2026 by the Mancomunidad of Municipalities of Ribera Alta.
