OLD MODERNIST-STYLE SLAUGHTERHOUSE (ALGINET)
Description
Old slaughterhouse on Almàssera Street in Alginet.
The building was inaugurated in 1905, a project by the architect Carlos Carbonell Pañella. It is a modernist-style building, typical of its days, with an austere decoration appropriate to the use for which it was built. The materials used are ceramic tiles and stone, and inside it stands out a ceramic border with floral ornamentation.
Like most municipal slaughterhouses, the building fell into disuse due to both regulatory and economic changes in the meat sector.
Its structure stands out with a central nave with a gabled roof and several naves connected to each other. A stone coat of arms of Alginet presides over the entrance to the center. The building had a washhouse, now disappeared. It currently retains its public use and is the center of the Alginet retirement home.
