Interview with Paco Muñoz
Description
Paco Muñoz Ramírez was born in Valencia on January 5, 1939. One of his uncles was a priest, and when Paco was only three and a half years old, he took charge of his nephew to ease the family’s financial burden (Paco Muñoz was the third of five siblings). He lived with his uncle in Ontinyent, and at the age of seven, they moved to Carcaixent, where he studied at La Salle school. After eight years, he returned to his family home in Valencia.
He specifically remembers one experience from his childhood in Carcaixent, that, years later would be immortalized in one of the most popular songs associated with la Ribera: the trips on the Carcaixent-Dénia train. Years later, Paco Muñoz was a seminarian, even serving as a priest. He was a teacher until 1975, when he began his musical career as a singer-songwriter, making a significant contribution to the promotion of the Valencian language.
He had great success as a children’s singer, starting in 1984 with a concert in the Viveros Gardens, and a couple of years later he performed at the Valencia Provincial festival before 18,000 children.
Paco Muñoz fondly remembers the last concert at the Teatro Principal (València), a resounding success of attendance.
