The train Carcaixent – (and later, Carcaixent – Dénia) was active from 1864 to 1974. It began as a tram with animal traction (blood engine). Used to transport citrus fruits, rice and passengers from La Ribera to the ports of Gandia and Dènia. Stations were built in Carcaixent, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Xeraco and Gandia. Paco Muñoz summarized the essence of trenet in a verse: “fent xups xups/ eix quan vol, arrivalr quan pot.” Stations, was very relevant both for the agriculture economic development of La Ribera and for the sun and beach tourism.
